Violence at Howe Community Park Leaves 4 People Shot in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a shooting incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at Howe Park just as officers were dissolving an unlawful assembly of a crowd of several hundred.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about the Arden-Arcade park at approximately half past six in the evening after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Shortly after, a second caller reported concerning a possible physical fight taking place inside the park.

Aerial units scanned the area from the air but could not confirm any ongoing fight. However, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had congregated at Howe Park in an unauthorized manner.

The Shooting Itself

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and making announcements telling the crowd to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots were discharged. The rapid succession of shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Deputies immediately began locating gunshot victims.

The Shooting Victims

Ultimately, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — comprising three men and one woman unauthorized gathering shooting Sacramento all reportedly in their twenties — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Doctors and nurses noted that two were treated for serious injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and aided in treating the injured at the park.

Evidence at the Scene

The bulk of the shooting was determined to have occurred along Cottage Way near the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators located extra shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet damage were noted in the metal fencing adjacent to the Home Depot store. These findings showed that a second shooter had been firing southward from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down while law enforcement worked the area. Crime scene personnel continued working late into the evening.

Suspects Detained

Information relayed over scanner radio traffic established that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been stopped in nearby Solano County. Four people were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were dispatched to Solano County to collect the individuals for further questioning. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
